Key message 1... It will be drier and rather pleasant much of the week, then increasing showers and thunderstorms over the weekend into next week.

High pressure will shift from the upper mississippi valley to over the mid-atlantic states by friday. Expect to see temperatures to be slightly below normal for late july. As the high pressure shifts offshore over the weekend, expect increasing moisture and thunderstorm chances again by saturday in the west and elsewhere by sunday into early next week. This return of moisture with a trough likely developing just west of the appalachians will keep the temperatures check sunday into early next week. Highs may hold in the 80S. Additional heavy rainfall is possible late in the weekend into next week that may continue to bring relief with the ongoing drought.

Aviation — 05Z Wednesday Through Sunday

As of 105 AM wednesday...

Taf period: there is a minimal threat for fog at rwi behind the cold front that passed through earlier, but otherwise, VFR conditions are expected over the next 24 hours. There will be just some spotty clouds overnight, and the wind will veer from the west to the northwest in the morning with some gusts.

Outlook: dry VFR conditions are forecast through at least friday night, with isolated showers/storms possible at int/gso saturday and saturday night. Precipitation coverage will expand on sunday, with showers/storms likely at int/gso/rwi and more scattered coverage at rdu/rwi.
