Discussion

Issued at 210 AM EDT wed jul 29 2026

Canadian high pressure settles overhead beneath a persistent northwest flow aloft. While the larger scale upper-level pattern may fluctuate somewhat with time, little overall change is expected through much of the forecast period, favoring a continued stretch of generally dry and seasonable temperatures with increasing temperatures, humidity, and shower chances as we get to the latter half of the week.

Winds will continue to ease as high pressure works overhead, allowing for efficient radiational cooling... Featuring more of the same with cooler overnight temperatures (like last night) expected for tonight across the traditional colder interior locations. Overnight lows could dip into the low 50S to upper 40S before quickly rebounding after sunrise. Despite the cool starts, afternoon temperatures today and thursday should steadily moderate with locations climbing back into the 70S and 80S under plentiful sunshine.

Attention then turns toward late week into the weekend as northwest flow persists and a couple of subtle disturbances attempt to work southeast across the upper great lakes. Confidence remains lower regarding the timing and coverage of any precipitation, though the current signal continues to favor at least low chances for scattered showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms sometime friday into saturday...stay tuned!
