Issued 206 PM MST sun nov 1 2026 a pacific cold front exiting east of the region early this evening will leave a strong post-frontal surface pressure gradient across southern idaho. Gusty westerly winds will remain the primary impact through late this evening, especially along the interstate 84 corridor from mountain home through the western magic valley. In these areas, sustained winds of 20 to 30 MPH with peak gusts reaching 45 MPH before winds steadily taper off after midnight as the gradient relaxes and surface decoupling occurs.
Behind the front, scattered shower activity over the central idaho mountains will diminish overnight, giving way to clearing skies. Patchy valley fog may develop early monday morning in sheltered basins that received wetting rains, particularly across southeast oregon and west-central idaho. However, its unlikely fog will develop across the snake plain given sustained winds overnight.
A transitory upper-level ridge builds overhead monday into monday night, yielding dry conditions and near-normal daytime temperatures. Mid and high clouds increase on tuesday ahead of the next weak shortwave trough advancing out of the eastern pacific. Model guidance keeps the bulk of moisture and upper support split north and south of our forecast area, with precipitation chances limited mainly to isolated showers over the higher terrain of the west central mountains late tuesday and tuesday night. Temperatures through tuesday night will remain within a few degrees of seasonal normals.
Issued 206 PM MST sun nov 1 2026 the mid week low pressure system will be on the way out wednesday, resulting in breezy afternoon winds but little to no precipitation. Additional systems will move by to the north on thursday and friday, resulting in a 10-30% chance of showers on thursday and a 20-40% chance on friday, highest across our northern cwa. Over the weekend, an upper-level ridge is forecast to build with dry conditions returning. The weak systems wednesday through friday will bring slight cooling, but temperatures will still be near normal. Slightly warmer temperatures will arrive over the weekend as the ridge builds in.
